World Breastfeeding Week – Am I producing enough Breastmilk

These World Breastfeeding posts were from a series featured on the Santosha Instagram profile and Facebook page. They are short and sharp posts intended to share little facts about breastfeeding. If you would like more information, I recommend Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding.

The quantity and quality of breastmilk is particularly tailored to each baby. The amount of fat they need, the volume of milk they need and the time they need it is all controlled by our body and hormones.
Breast engorgement happens when the milk is regulating. As the weeks go by, it sometimes seems like there is not enough milk for the baby and the mother’s breasts don’t seem to “fill up”. It just means Mum’s hormones and body have regulated to make just the right amount of milk for baby. Such clever body’s we have! As long as there are 5-6 wet nappies a day, baby is getting enough milk.
