Plastic Free July – buy in BULK to save packaging (and money)

These Plastic Free July posts were from a series featured on the Santosha Instagram profile and Facebook page. They are short and sharp posts intended to share how I have minimised the usage of plastic in my life.

If you look in your pantry, how many products are packaged in plastic? I’ve already shared how I try and buy products in jars. Many of the foods I store in these jars, I actally buy in bulk. It’s definitely cost effective, but also saves A LOT in packaging. In this photo you can see there are products packaged in plastic, but we (in our bulk food co-op) purchase the largest amount we can from Honest to Goodness – Organic Food & Natural Food and share it around. So rather than 5 individual packets, we will have one big one. It’s not eliminating plastic all together, but it is certainly minimizing it! Some things to buy in bulk include:
 Flour
 Nuts and seeds
 Sugar and other baking products
 Dried fruit
 Herbs and spices
There is a good chance there is a bulk food buying co-op near you. You just need to seek 👀 it out! If you’re lucky enough to have a bulk buying shop near you, you can take your jars and containers and buy direct. Because of location, we need to order in
