Plastic Free July – brew your own TEA with LEAVES to avoid teabags

All through July I am posting ideas for reducing plastic in our lives. These are small swaps and purchases you can make that will make a big difference to the earth 🌏 and often to your hip pocket 💰 too!

#plasticfreejuly Swap Number 3
🍵 \ brew your own TEA with LEAVES to avoid teabags // 🍂
After yesterday’s coffee rant…let’s all drink TEA!!! 🍵
Not just yet…
Did you know that there is plastic in your tea bag??? That plastic, that you pour hot water over, that ‘melts’ into your cup of tea and causes (albeit a small amount of) toxins product in your body??? ☢️
Many tea bags contain amounts of polypropylene, as well as a plastic glue that holds the string to the bag.
The “Pyramid” style bags are made from a corn 🌽 derived product. So they are biodegradable and compostable. They are also a little more expensive.
Your other option? Loose leaf! Or make your own. If you’re into herbal teas, there are many plants that make great teas 🥀🌸🌼 Pick them straight from the plant and pop in hot water, or you can dry them and store them in your non-plastic containers 💡
I used to buy loose leaf black tea and boil it up with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, star anise, cloves and cardamom to make a really delicious home-made chai 😋 I should get back into that.
But just a bit of black tea in a pretty tea pot will do the trick too. T2 have these great “Teamakers” (see image) and believe it or not, this cute green tea cup (also featured) came as a free gift when I bought a friend a “Tea for one set”. T2 Tea is my favourite for loose leaf tea.
If loose leaf tea isn’t your thing, a shout out needs to go to Pukka Herbs. We will be stocking some of their range very soon 😋 so if you’ve got a favourite, let me know!
