Plastic Free July – GLASS or STAINLESS STEEL straws

All through July I am posting ideas for reducing plastic in our lives. These are small swaps and purchases you can make that will make a big difference to the earth 🌏 and often to your hip pocket 💰 too!

Last time we were in Bali, I noticed a big movement for restaurants to move away from plastic straws. This may seem like an insignificant item, but like all the other plastic items I’m suggesting swaps for this month, straws slowly but surely add up in the environment. In Sanur (the area of Bali we stay) many restaurants were supplying paper straws. By the end of my tropical smoothie or happy hour cocktail, they were getting a little soft, but at least I knew that’s what would be happening when they were discarded in the rubbish. Not hanging around for centuries to come.
At home I have several stainless steel and glass straws. I use these for my smoothies, fresh juices and warm morning lemon drink. One straw I was given as a gift actually came with a little pouch so I could pop it in my handbag, ready to use while out and about.
Even if you don’t want to whip out your straw at your local drinking establishment for your vodka, lime and soda; a couple of straws at home are great for your home-made smoothies and juices.
We stock Ever Eco stainless steel straws in the clinic but for a greater range, check out my favourite source here 🥤
